Chair
Richard Croft
Richard is a First Class Diver, Advanced Instructor and Instructor Trainer with many years of diving experience around the world.

"I have been diving since 1995, when I started my journey by learning to dive in the local pool, which at that time took 12 sessions. Then I became a 'novice' diver - not a great name but it says everything! I quickly progressed through the grades getting my Sports Diver in the same year, my Dive Leader the following year and my Advanced Diver a year later.
I have been lucky enough to travel and dive all over the world: Cuba, Maldives, Egypt, Mexico (both coasts), Saba, Farne Islands, Plymouth, Weymouth etc.
I eventually reached the highest grade within the BSAC of First Class Diver in 2017 and the year before that I also got my Advanced Instructor grade.
I am an active instructor within the East Midlands region and am passionate that the BSAC diver training program is amongst the finest in the world. My role is to ensure that all diving is safe and that training is to standard.
I hope to see you join our branch to start your diving adventures".

Club Welfare
Officer
Rob Straw
Rob is a Dive Leader who is enjoying learning about the range of diving available at inland and coastal sites around the UK and the rest of the world.

"I joined East Midlands Sub-Aqua Club 1st May 2019 after doing some research to start diving. This has always been an ambition of mine as I had done some try dives in the past but never started. So I went on a try dive with the club and joined the following week. Since joining, the club has trained me to dive and I did my Ocean Diver qualification with the excellent trainers they have, by 31st August I passed and became qualified. After a short period of time I went on to start the next level called Sports Diver. By 2nd August 2020 I had passed and became qualified. There is no pressure by the club to rush qualifications. I did them all at my own pace. They would never let you progress if they didn’t think you were ready. The support I received from the club is excellent.

The club has lots of members with 3 National Instructors. During my time with the club I have been on several trips to the sea and completed lots of diving at Stoney Cove, which is the nearest inland site. I have also had the opportunity to visit some other inland sites, just to see what else is out there and get more experience.

Since joining the club I have been appointed the role of treasurer as being a ex-bank manager they felt my knowledge would be useful".
Treasury and Memberships
Karen
Furzeman
Karen is a Dive Leader. She joined with her daughter in 2019 and enjoys encountering the marine life that inhabits our seas and oceans.

“Mid-life crisis? What crisis? I nervously started diving with my daughter when I was 50 with a view to going down under on holiday. I finally made it to Australia 3 years later and it did not disappoint. Turtles, sharks, cuttlefish and yes, I found Nemo and his friends.

I have also explored the immense diversity of the UK coastline. Diving the Farne Islands exceeded all expectations, and the playful seals was another bucket list item now ticked. It is now the highlight of the club calendar for me.

Progressing through the levels to Dive Leader, I am constantly learning new skills in diving, first aid, marine life identification and much more. Skills that have given me the confidence and the experience to dive wrecks and reefs both in UK waters and abroad. As an Assistant Instructor I am looking forward to passing skills onto other beginners helping them to tick their own bucket list items.”
